scrap weekend with Heather

Just returned on Sunday from a 4 day scrap weekend with my friend Heather. She lives in Cinncinnati and I live in Chicago so we met halfway in a town near Indianapolis. I have never been away from my family for that long but it was an easy decision to have a little get away. Work and school and family keep me busy and for my own sanity I needed a break, LOL. We reserved 2 adjoining rooms and did a WHOLE lotta scrapping. I finished 13 layouts...my hands are still sore, lol. I have two to share today plus some pics of our room set up.

The first two layouts I finished were the kids first day of school. I lifted a layout of Nichol Magourik, which you can see here. She puts a lot of detail on her pages such as diecuts and stamping and I loved the apples at the bottom. Kendall's layout has 5 different stamps. The apples were stamped with versamark, heat embossed, and then covered in glossy accents. The banner stamp was stamped in black and then I used Distress Inks to color them in. I used the notepad stamp for the journaling, which was typed on.

Aydan's layout uses the same idea as above but I changed the color scheme. On his I used Jillibean soup papers and some Cosmo Cricket Core'dinations color core cardstock. Love this paper pack, which I got at Hobby Lobby. I really love the Jillibean paper, I'm now a huge fan!

I used my Making Memories sand block to show the white core. I journaled on the report card die cut with my typewriter. And I've realized that I don't have a title...will have to change that!
I had so much fun making these layouts and really understood how much time it takes to put a lot of details on your page. I think I used to spend more time on my layouts years ago but with two kids I don't take that much time anymore on my pages. I really had fun with all the stamping and embossing!

And Heather asked if I wouldn't mind taking some pics for her. I was happy to do so and we went driving to the outskirts of town looking for a nice place. We found this golf club with a cute fence but on the way we saw a few barns and tractors and were dying to stop but its private property so we had to pass.
Here are a few pics of our set up...we used drawers for our stamps and punches and we had some tables for supplies. Each room had a desk and a chair, which was really comfy. Heather and I planned the whole thing out for a while and we even made a list of who was bringing what so we could share supplies. She brought a ton of stamps and inks and buttons. I brought diecutting stuff and ribbons. I also brought this...
Having a typewriter is perfect for scrapbooking when you don't have a computer/printer with you. We used this a ton! I know that it was Heather's favorite tool!
Here's our worktable set up...
Heather brought her collection of distress inks...I had fun playing with them. I own about 4 or 5 but I loved all the fun colors she had and I'm planning on building up my collection a bit.

our work tables before we got started...
I used the second bed in Heather's room to put my junk on, lol. I brought a LOT of stuff.
drawer for ribbons...

our diecutting/embossing station...we used this a lot! Fun to have a place for all the diecutting stuff and embossing supplies.
To the right of the desk was my dresser where we stored our punches...

we used two drawers to seperate our supplies.
Our tools table...scorer, irock, heat embosser and tray, circle cutter...oh yay and my i-top, couldn't used that because I couldn't find the accessories for it. lol!
Well I have a lot more layouts to show you in a few days...thanks for looking!

Guest Designer at Creative Scrappers

I was so excited when Kristine asked me be a guest designers on the Creative Scrappers Blog! I just love their fun sketches and the designers create the most awesome layouts. My son, Aydan, just turned 5 and the night before I took a little photo shoot out in the backyard. I do this with Kendall as well. I have a lot of "almost" layouts. I probably should have put some more journaling about his favs right now. But really this layout is just to feature Aydan's pretty little face. So please head to Creative Scrappers here and see the other takes on this amazing sketch!

Used a lot of new Jillibean soup here and made the banners with my slice. After I cut them out I put a letter sticker on each flag, rubbed the paper with some ranger ink and removed the sticker. I love this technique, such a fun way to change up things.

See the embossed cardstock? That's from Core-dinations made for Cosmo Cricket. They sell it at Hobby Lobby now...just love that embossed look! Thanks for looking!

you and me

This blog entry is very special to me because its Ozan’s Birthday and our Anniversary. His birthday is Sept 4th and our 12th wedding anniversary is Sept 5th. I spent a lot of time going through boxes of pics of us through the years and I had a hard time narrowing down the pics…I couldn’t narrow it down more than this but hopefully my readers won’t be too bored. Get ready for some big bands, permed hair, and big gold jewelry...lol! And this is going to be long!!!

We met in January of 1992. Ozan was home from college at Indiana State. I had just graduated college a few months before that and was beginning my new career as an xray tech. Ozan’s best friend, Steve, was a friend and co-worker of mine. He thought we would make a good couple and asked us both to dinner. Soon afterwards Ozan asked me out on a date…I had to decline because I was working that night. I don’t think he believed me but it was true.

So we eventually had our first date. We went to a Greek Restaurant with Steve and his girlfriend and then went to a place to shoot pool. Our second date was a movie to see JFK, after that it’s a blur. Lol. We had a lot of fun dating, would head to the city and go clubbing. We were 23 and 24 years old back then and had a blast. It didn’t get serious for a few months, as a matter of fact I actually had the thought of breaking up with him because he didn’t seem to have the same feelings that I did for him. Well, we made it and had a long relationship before we got married many years later.

Four months after we met, I moved out of my mom’s house and into my own apartment. I had every intention of living alone…well, that didn’t last long because Ozan never left and I finally caved in and made it official that we (gasp) were living together.

Fast forward to 1994, we were moving into a different apartment and Ozan had to go to the ER for pain. He had some further testing done a few days later and was diagnosed with two types of testicular cancer. I set him up with a physician at my hospital and he had surgery.
He came home the next day and we thought that we were done and in the clear when the surgeon recommend that he have his lymphnodes removed from his abdomen to prevent the chance of the cancer spreading. We were shocked but agreed. His surgery went OK but he was in our most critical ICU because of the extent of his surgery.

In 1996 we went on a trip to Jamaica to celebrate his recovery and for Christmas I surprised Ozan with a lab puppy, her name was Chloe. Ozan talked about how much he wanted a dog while he was sick. He was so overwhelmed with excitement and she quickly became a part of our family…she was our child.
(This is my favorite picture of us beside our wedding pics and my favorite hairstyle. Plus I found out about my instructor promotion earlier that day :)
Exactly a year later on Christmas Day 1997, Ozan popped the question and of course I said yes but with the stipulation that we would get married within the next year. I did not want to have one of those 2 or 3 year engagements. I had waited long enough.

We had a gorgeous outdoor wedding on September 5th in front of an old mansion that was turned into a Spanish restaurant. After the wedding we had the reception on the same grounds under a white tent and served Tapas and Sangria. I am an emotional person who cries at every wedding but at mine I laughed the entire ceremony. Our reverend was so funny, I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful ceremony!

We had our honeymoon in Maui and San Diego.

In early 2000, I found out I was pregnant. After I told everyone, I had a miscarriage. It was pretty devastating news for us and really hard on me emotionally. Gosh, typing this really reminds me of how much we really have been through...lots of ups and downs.

OK, don’t want to make this too long but we purchased our house later that year. And in 2002 I was pregnant with Kendall. We were elated to be pregnant again. I had terrible morning (all-day) sickness for 4 months and I lost a lot of weight.

(ugh, terrible pic taken at night time, lol)

Our baby girl was born on February 4th, 2003 at a healthy 8 lbs, 3 oz.
Aydan came along on August 24, 2005 at 9 lbs, 11 oz. I had lost a lot of weight with him as well. At 8 months I had an ultrasound to make sure that everything was OK, and it was. Our family was complete. (I still have to get a picture of us with aydan posted).
In 2007, our precious Chloe died. It was the saddest day of our lives, she was our child and I still miss her like crazy! Things have been pretty steady now. The kids are both now in elementary school and they are just the most wonderful thing that has happened to us!

Its crazy to think that we’ve been together for almost 19 years. Its amazing how many life changing things that we’ve been through. It hasn't always been easy and we aren't perfect but we've been through together through thick and thin.
We went to dinner and a movie tonight to celebrate!
Happy Anniversary Honey! I'm sure the tears are rolling like crazy! Thank you for our family and being such a great husband and daddy. We love you!

Sweet Summertime-Echo Park

This past year I made Crop Chocolate's team of "Chocolatiers". We got to choose products of theirs to use for our designs. I got lucky and scored some a package of gorgeous Echo Park "Sweet Summertime". I made a two page layout and a card. For the layout I decided to make a collage of small pictures of our crazy busy summer. We went to California and to our usual water park in Wisconsin Dells. Even though I haven't scrapped our California vacation, I thought that a summary of summer was in order to capture our busy summer.
These papers are so vibrant and have a nice thick-ness to them. The kit also come with journaling cards, stickers, border stickers, and letter stickers. It was so easy to just throw some stickers on, made for an easier page!

For the card I used my Slice summer card to make the sun and added a glitter pen to it.

Supplies Used:
Patterned Paper: Echo Park
Cardstock: Bazzill
Cork: Karen Foster
Punch: Fiskars
Binder Clips and Diecutting Machine: Making Memories
Silver Gems: Michaels
Pens: American Crafts and Sakura

Creative Scrappers #114

this is my second post today so be sure and scroll down for more projects:
Did this LO for the Creative Scrappers Sketch Challenge. I've been wanting to scrap this picture forever and this sketch was perfect for it. Plus I've been wanting to use that Scenic Route chicken paper as well :)
I stamped the brown cardstock with a background stamp from PTI. The chicken paper was distressed on the edges with the Blending Tool and I used Tattered Angels Mist in Coffee Shop in the middle. This is totally different from my usual style but I wanted to "man it up" a bit.
Supplies Used:
Cardstock: Autumn Leaves
Patterned Paper&Chipboard Letters: Scenic Route
Rub Ons: Autumn leaves and Hambly Studios
Tickets and Journaling Stickers: Jenni Bowlin
Mini Letters: Cosmo Cricket (love!!)
Stamp and Cream Ink: Papertry ink
Brown Ink: Memories
Misting Spray: Tattered Angels
Distress Tool: Ranger
Gafer Tape: 7 Gypsies
Ticket Corner Punch: Stampin Up
Star Border Die Cut: Making Memories
Other: Wood Buttons and Yarn

Goofs

I had to do a layout about my kids crazy faces!! These pics were taken at the McDonalds outside of Disneyland on our trip last month! I took out my camera and they put on a show for me. I do this a lot to keep them entertained when we're sitting down waiting. LOL.
Supplies Used:
PP&Puffy Letters: American Crafts
Cardstock: Hobby Lobby and DCWV
Green Chipboard: DCWV
Journaling Spots: Jillibean Soup
Monster Rub Ons: October Afternoon
Ribbon: Paper Source
Border Punch: Martha Stewart
Scalloped Square Punch: Marvy
Journaling Spots: Jenni Bowlin
I used the "eyes" from the rub-ons to put inside of the "o". The title and the "K&A" were put on green chipboard and then the edges were sanded. Used my good old typewriter for the journaling spots. My husband was noticing some of the typing errors such as the crookedness and a part where I forgot to space, but I told him its OK its part of the handmade look :)
Just a simple card. I wanted to use my new MS butterfly border punch and I'm loving this color combo. I have a ton of this gray ribbon as well...its my fav!

Supplies Used:
CS: Bazzill (gray) & Stampin Up (blue)
PP: Cosmo Cricket (love!)
Ribbon and Thickers: American Crafts
Stamp: Hero Arts
Staples: Ranger
Ink: Papertry Ink
Glitter Pen: Sakura (love this!!!)
Corner Punch: Corner Chomper-We R Memory Keepers
And a quick card I made for my husband on Father's Day!

Its Been a While

I've been slacking here on my little blog. We were in California a few weeks back. Baseball is taking up a lot of time...just plain enjoying our summer. Oh, and I'm taking Karen Russell's online photography class as well. Today it poured while the sun was very strong, I always run out to find a rainbow when that happens and captured this. If it wasn't for the houses, I would have captured the whole thing.

I have a couple of layouts to share. Both of these were done from a recent magazine sketch (I love the sketch so much that I used it for both).
This is Kendall with one of her BFs Kylie...they've been friends since they were 3 when they went to the same pre-school. She had to leave her when she was in the first grade and she's missed her so much. We set up a playdate and got tons of pics! I made a vow to myself to take a lot of pics of my kids friends, something that I don't have from my childhood. Most everything here is Cosmo Cricket(Delovely), except the cloud paper, which is My Little Shoebox. And finally, I got to scrap Aydan's 4th bday party. He turns 5 next month, then starts Kindergarten. He's my baby ("no, I'm a big boy Mommy") and I'm excited but sad to see him grow up so fast.
The paper is Bo Bunny (green). The red paper, number paper, and candle border sticker are Scenic Route, and the elements (balloon, banner, buttons, and tag) are Making Memories. Aydan is crazy about numbers so that paper fits him well! The "4" was cut with my Slice and the scalloped circle is a Technique Tuesday chipboard tile that I spritzed with Glimmer Mist :)
Hopefully everyone enjoyed their 4th...I'm glad to be off tomorrow. Hopefully I can get scrapping!

Happy 40th Birthday Laura Vegas!!!!!!!!

Surprise Laura! Welcome to your 40th b-day party! First of all Happy Birthday Girl :) I hope you like your b-day blog hop. You totally deserve it! Yes, I'm going to get all mushy...just wanted to say how wonderful of a friend you are. I never thought that when I found your blog almost 3 years ago that I would find a wonderful person to call my BFF. Thank you for always being there for me in every way. You always cheer me up and make me laugh when I need it the most. I can't tell you how much that means to me. I wish I could be there to celebrate it with you! I really do.
Funny because even though you are younger than me (lol) I still look up to you for your guidance in life and all the other things we have in common like for instance...hmmm, scrapbooking :) You really are a person who just radiates positive energy , can laugh at herself, and I love being around it.

Girl, have a wonderful day and I'll talk to you soon!!!

Now on to Sara! HERE
